EUROPEAN PLACES FOR WINNERS OF YOUNG SHEPHERD OF THE YEAR COMPETITION AT NSA HIGHLANDSHEEP

| Youngsters with an interest in working with sheep will have the opportunity of qualifying for the European championship in France by taking part in the Young Shepherd of the Year competition at NSA Highlandsheep at Dingwall Mart on Thursday, May 30. “This is a marvellous opportunity for youngsters to participate for the accolade of NSA Highlandsheep Young Shepherd of the Year, with the winner and runner-up qualifying for the European Young Shepherds Challenge 2013,” said former Oatridge College head of agriculture, Dave Turner, who is organising the competition on behalf of NSA Scotland. HELP FOR WEATHER-HIT FARMERS

Neale McQuiston of NSA Scotland joined Cabinet Secretary Richard Lochhead on a farm visit to Dumfries and Galloway earlier this week, to discuss ongoing weather issues. Scottish Government had already pledged £500,000 to help farmers with Fallen Stock bills and Mr Lochhead said, given the importance of keeping farms viable, he would assess what additional funding might be needed once the full extent of the losses was known.
